Lucia Joy Fernandez (b. 1979) is a Spanish-American artist based in the Pacific Northwest. Raised by Cuban immigrants - an artist and a technologist - a passion for science, storytelling, and immersing herself in the natural world was formed. Lucia has lived, worked, and studied in many places throughout her life, all greatly influencing her way of seeing and understanding the world through the lens of art and design. With a background in architecture, her practice is grounded in a process of curating work that speaks to the many layers of experience that exist within us, inspired through creating a heightened sense of awareness and experience of ourselves and the world around us.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The aim of my work is to translate what can be felt when connecting to the invisible thread running through all things - a force that is bold and fierce, yet light and untethered. Through a process of uncovering and revealing, I explore the balance and space between the stillness of darkness and the movement and fluidity of light, applied through a process of precision and abstraction. I seek out a place where a greater story unfolds beyond the surface of things and taps into the unseen aspects of life, celebrating and capturing the essence of being alive through painting, drawing, building.
